Week 5 - The Plant Cycle
This week we will be setting up some germination experiments in our windows to grow some beans. What do you predict will happen in different areas of the learning space? When you have completed your learning map, watch the video below and then go to the Maker Space to set up your experiment.

Your creative task this week is to imagine that you have discovered a brand new species of plant! You are going to create a fact page about your plant then a fold out poster displaying all the characteristic it.

Week 4 - The Plant Cycle
This week we are beginning our investigations into another of the Earth's cycles - the Plant Cycle and learning why this is important to us and our environment.
There are 6 tasks for you to choose from to gain knowledge around the Plant Cycle.

- You MUST read at least 3 books on EPIC before you begin your tasks.
- You MUST complete at least 2 tasks before Thursday.
Task 1 - True/False Statements
- In your Everyday Book write 8 different true or false sentences - 4x true and 4x false. Use EPIC to help you find some interesting facts - remember to be curious about what you DON'T know!!
- Choose your best 4 "Fact or Fib" sentences and publish them on the paper provided (Go to Zone). This will be displayed for people to come and read and test their own knowledge.
Task 2 - Did you know facts
Create a poster providing some interesting facts and information that you have learnt from reading books on EPIC.
You can also use the template in the Go To Zone if you prefer to use this instead of your own design.
- Your poster must have a title - Did You Know?
- It must include at least 5 interesting facts to share with others
- Design your poster to make it attractive for your audience so it entices them in to read your facts.

Create a flip book or flashcards for these keywords - choose at least 4 or these words

- kawakawa
- rātā
- mānuka
- kōwhai.
- Flax leaves or roots were made into pulp, heated and put on skin infections such as boils.
- The hard part of the leaf was used to splint a broken bone.
- A bad cut was sewn up with flax fibre (muka).
- Kawakawa leaves and bark were used for cuts and stomach pains.
- Kawakawa was used to make a steam bath. The leaves were placed on hot stones with water poured over. The patient sat on top.
- Ashes from burnt mānuka were rubbed on the scalp to cure dandruff.
- A tea made from the leaves was drunk for a fever.
