These are the stages in maths we are working to:
What we are learning in maths:
Term 3
This term we will be having a big focus on place value and addition using a range of strategies. We also have two days per week where we work collaboratively together to solve rich maths problems. In this way we are able to share our ideas with each other.
Lockdown
During lockdown we are focusing on place value and lots of practise in expanding and making numbers, calculating the tens in a two digit number and addition/subtraction of tens.
Week 4
This week we are using our place value knowledge to solve addition problems. We are adding and subtracting groups of 10.
Week 1 to 3
The focus is on the place value of digits within two and three digit numbers. We are looking at ones, tens and hundreds. The students need to understand how many groups of tens are in a two and three digit numbers at Stages 4 and 5 of the curriculum. We are using a range of materials to support this learning:
Integral to this learning is the ability to expand numbers out to identify their value:
Can you expand these numbers into their long form to identify the hundreds, tens and ones?

Term 2
Week 9 and 10
For the end of term we are using our multiplication and division knowledge and transferring this to learn all about fractions of shapes and numbers. Below are some videos to watch.
Some epic books for you to read about fractions:
Below are some challenges for you to try.
Week 8
This week we will be exploring a rich problem solving task to apply our learning in multiplication and division. Students will be asked to design their own vegetable garden in their grid books using arrays and then applying the equation for the area.
Week 6 and 7
We have spent 3 weeks exploring skip counting and multiplication. We are now focussing on division and equal sharing. There will also be links made to the multiplication we have been learning. Here are some examples of how we can work out our division:

Week 3, 4 and 5
We are starting our block on multiplication/division and strategies we use to work out problems that require us to use multiplication and division. Our first focus will be on skip counting or repeated addition as a building block for understanding multiplicative strategies. We need to know how to skip count in 2's, 5's and 10's forwards and backwards to 100. We will also be introduced to the 'x' symbol for multiplication and how this signifies 'groups of'.
Week 2
This week we are continuing with our focus on subtraction but using word problems to challenge our understanding. Our word problems will be centred around the concept of money and our understanding of how money works.
Week 1
Our focus for the next week in our guided sessions will be subtraction facts, subtracting from the largest number and counting backwards to work out the answer. We will start working with the numbers to 20 and then move to numbers to 100. When we are secure in this strategy, we will be subtracting groups of 10 eg 56-10 or 72-10.
Our Basic Facts focus this week are our doubles and halves to 20 so we can recall them quickly. We will do lots of practise on these.

Week 10 and 11
Our focus for the next two weeks is adding on from the biggest number when doing addition. We are working with numbers up to 20 to practise the strategy. We will then move to numbers to 100 using the same strategy.
Week 9
Our focus this week is on the Fact Families.
Week 8
Our focus this week is on counting forwards and backwards from any number up to 100. We also need to be able to say the number that comes before and after a given number. It is important we can do this quickly and we will be using the number line and hundreds board to help us in our learning.
Week 7
Our focus this week is on subitising. This is the ability to see patterns quickly through different images. For example what number do you see when you see these images? We need to be able to recognise patterns instantly and we need lots of practise to do so with different combinations.
Week 6
Our focus this week is numbers to 100. We need to be able to write and recognise them. We use the hundreds chart to help us practise our numbers and see patterns for example ty numbers (30, 40, 50 etc), teen numbers (14, 15, 16) etc and how each number is made up of 2 digits.
